AboutMy name is Janna. I am Not Punk Rock. This was not always true. I used to be hardcore. I was sullen, and I brooded, and I dyed my hair pink. I listened to bands that didn’t exist yet, and bought Chuck Taylors with the goal of one day wearing them into the ground so that I could lovingly patch them with duct tape. Now I’m 30. That is definitely Not Punk Rock. I live in San Francisco, and I have a job that provides medical benefits and involves technology. If I were hardcore, I would eschew computers and spend my time skating down monster hills without protective gear. Who needs health insurance when duct tape will hold your limbs together? I have two cats, whom I dress in pink gingham collars. I frequently watch movies with subtitles, remotely update my Facebook profile, and bore a handful of people with my personal blog. I discovered a latent affinity for the Grateful Dead, and, most tellingly, don’t even own any duct tape. I do, however, live in a sketchy neighborhood. Maybe that counts for something. Finally, I enjoy wild exaggeration and self-deprecating humor. Punk rockers, by contrast, are quite serious. They would never make jokes about duct tape. If you’re still reading this, you’re probably Not Punk Rock, either. Like it or not, you’ve come to the right place. |
